Paul is a respected specialist in Australian Art, Chinese and Asian Arts and European Design, Antiques and Fine Art. He has over thirty years’ experience working in the art and antiques industry with international and Australian auction houses.

The son of art and antique dealers, Paul’s early years in the industry were spent in the United Kingdom where he began his career, taking his first auction at the age of seventeen. He emigrated to Australia in 1987 to commence work with Sydney auction house Rushton Fine Art and joined Christie’s Australia in 1990, becoming their Sydney Manager in 1992. He was then headhunted by Sotheby’s Australia, and at the age of 32, became their youngest ever Managing Director. Paul held this position until 2001 when he was appointed the Managing Director of Sotheby’s Olympia, London.

Paul returned to Australia in 2004 to establish Mossgreen, which at the time was the first auction house and gallery in the country. After nine years of growth Mossgreen merged with Leski Auctions in 2013 and acquired the former Armadale Picture Theatre in Melbourne where it is currently located. Mossgreen is now Australia’s largest multi-department auction house.

Charles established Leski Auctions in 1973 whilst he was still a student at Monash University. Initially focusing on Philately, the company soon diversified into other collecting fields including Sporting Memorabilia, Coins and Banknotes, Cameras and Photography, Australiana, Historical Documents and Letters and other collectables. Charles became established as a leading authority in the field of Collectables in Australia and by 2013, the company was conducting twenty auctions a year with extensive buyer participation from interstate and overseas.

Shaun Dennison is a passionate art collector, and started collecting Aboriginal art in the mid-1990s. Shaun was Aboriginal Art Specialist at Christie’s auction house from 2004 to 2006, where he established its Aboriginal art department with the inaugural sale in 2004. During that time he took exhibitions to New York, Paris and London, as well as Sydney and Melbourne. After Christie’s, Shaun set up christie+dennison with Leo Christie and has held a number of exhibitions in Sydney.

Shaun has been working with us since 2007 and his broad knowledge of the Aboriginal art market together with his abundant enthusiasm has gained the respect of Aboriginal art lovers and collectors worldwide.

Luke graduated from Christie’s Education in London and the University of Glasgow with Masters in Art History and Art World Practice with a major in Arts of China. He has worked in the field of Chinese Art since 2010; for Christie’s London and Hong Kong and for leading Hong Kong Gallery – The Joyce Gallery – as a specialist and cataloguer. Luke has a strong passion for Chinese and Asian Arts, especially Chinese ceramics, ancient Chinese bronzes, Chinese jades, Chinese gilt bronze sculptures and early Chinese stone sculptures.

From an early age Robert joined his late father, Murray Richards trading Sports, Vintage and Racing cars. He was also involved in the purchase of and restructure of the important Elfin Sports Cars Company in Melbourne in the mid-1990s.

Robert has over eighteen years’ auction industry experience both in Australia and North America. He was Assistant Vice President of Christie’s Interiors Department, New York and also worked on the prestigious annual Christie’s Motor Car Auction at Monterey, California. On his return to Australia Robert became National Operations Manager, Christie’s Australia and then Operations Manager, Mossgreen.

Robert became Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia Specialist for Mossgreen’s newly formed department in 2014. Following two very successful auctions, the department expanded and Robert is now Head of Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia.

Catherine has extensive industry experience and her long-held international associations with some of the most highly respected leaders in engineering, motor sport and blue ribbon auction houses has given her a unique cross section of knowledge.

A member of the Davison racing dynasty, Catherine’s lifetime spent in the post war and classic era of elite motor sport, competing and collecting in her own right, enables her to bring her legacy to the role.

With strong business and social networks across the globe, Catherine is a consummate and focused professional, whose understanding of the market will contribute significantly to exciting collectors’ auctions into the future.

James brings a wealth of industry experience to Mossgreen’s expanding Motoring Team, alongside Head of Department Robert Richards and Specialist Catherine Davison.

James was responsible for the highest value classic car auction ever held outside of Europe or the USA and has achieved world record prices for Lamborghinis, Holdens and Rileys as well as several other auction records.

He is a presenter on the TV programme, ‘Car Chronicles’ on Discovery Turbo Channel as well as being a contributor to various publications including The Spectator Australia and car magazines such as Rewind, Volante, Octane, Motorsport, New Zealand Classic Car and Motor. James will be based in our Sydney office in Queen Street, Woollahra.

Nick has been a collector of stamps and coins since childhood, with a focus on stamps from Great Britain. He worked in a variety of non-philatelic roles in the UK, France and Spain before settling in Australia 1999. Nick worked for Prestige Philately for eight years before joining Mossgreen as Stamps & Coins specialist in 2014.

He is a member of The Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria and Great Britain Philatelic Society.

Petrit’s academic work has led to a number of important art historical discoveries. As a result, he has assisted numerous major public institutions by sourcing and advising on acquisitions of rare and significant works of art.

In 2004 Petrit established Abazi Art Gallery with his father. In 2006 he left for Italy to study Art History at the University of Trento; he received an honours degree (cum laude) upon completing his thesis on the Italian art of Jeffrey Smart. Petrit curated five Contemporary art exhibitions in Italy.
Returning to Australia in 2011, he commenced working with Sotheby’s Australia. Later, he joined Menzies as a Senior Art Specialist, before holding the position of Senior Researcher at Leonard Joel.

He completed his MA in Art Curatorship (first-class honours) in 2014, at the University of Melbourne. He wrote his thesis on the exhibition and reception of Australian art in London in the nineteenth century and has published over fifty catalogue essays. Petrit is currently writing a monograph on the art of Melbourne sculptor, Deborah Halpern.

Jon Dwyer has been in the art business for more than thirty years, and descends from a three generation ‘Art’ family. Jon has worked with both Australian and International pictures and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading art authorities.
Jon has held esteemed positions as Head of Art at Leonard Joel and Head of Art, Head of Valuations and Director at Christie’s. At Christie’s and in early years at Joel’s, Jon was instrumental in many of the record and ground-breaking sales, including the Pyramid Group Collection (1988), Qintex Collection (1988), Rogowski Collection (1988), Mertz Collection (2000), Harold Schenberg Collection (2003), BHP Billiton Collection (2004), Coles Myer Collection (2004), James Bleasal Collection (2005) and Joseph Brown Collection (2005).

Jon is an Approved valuer for the Cultural Gifts Programme for the Australian Federal Government. Jon has also been an Examiner for the Protection of Moveable Heritage. Jon has valued and/or acted as Consultant for many of Australia’s most significant Corporate and Private Collections, as well as acting on behalf of a number of key Australian Public Institutions.

Geoffrey Cassidy has over 18 years experience in the Austraian arts industry across both the private and public sectors. Having worked initially with the inimitable Ray Hughes, he then spent nearly 10 years at Sotheby’s in the paintings department, the latter period as Head of paintings, being appointed a Director of Sotheby’s International in 2008. This was followed by 4 years as Director of Artbank, the Australian Government artist support initiative, responsible for the largest budget for the purchase of contemporary art in the country. He has recently returned from several years in London, where, among other things, he curated a successful show of contemporary Australian art for the Fine Art Society

Jennifer is a highly respected furniture and decorative arts specialist, valuer and auctioneer with a vast range of knowledge in her field. Her industry experience includes roles as Head of Decorative Arts and Senior Auctioneer at various international and Australian auction houses. Jennifer has overseen the sale of a number of historically important pieces and established a record auction price for Australian furniture when the Peter McLean Cedar sideboard sold for AUD$600,000.

Jennifer’s expertise includes English, Australian and Continental furniture, ceramics, glass, sculpture and silver coupled with a keen interest in Asian works of Art including Japanese ceramics and textiles.

Sandy is well respected in the industry, having worked at Sotheby’s UK and Australia for over 30 years. She has also been instrumental in the sale of important historical items such as the George Ingram VC and the Jackie Howe Shearing medal – both of which are now in public institutions.

Gary has been a professional philatelist since 1979. As proprietor of Prestige Philately, he earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and respected stamp auctioneers in the world. Prestige Philately was voted Auction House of the Year seven times by the members of the Australasian Philatelic Traders’ Association (APTA).

Gary is a long-time member of APTA, of which he has been a Vice-President and chairman of the Ethics Committee; also of the Philatelic Traders’ Society (London); American Stamp Dealers’ Association; and the New Zealand SDA.

A passionate collector since childhood, Gary has formed several significant/important collections of stamps, postmarks, postal history, postal stationery, and philatelic literature. He has been a successful exhibitor and is a qualified National judge in three disciplines.

Gary is a regular contributor to specialist journals in several countries and has written series of articles about postal stationery and “The Auction Game”, all of which can be viewed online at prestigephilately.com. He is an active member of numerous specialist societies and has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria, of the Australian Commonwealth Collectors Club of NSW, and of the British Society of Australian Philately.

Ray Tregaskis

Ray began collecting Asian Art in the 1970s and opened his first gallery in Sydney in January 1979. He and his partner, Victoria have travelled extensively throughout Asia and Europe over the past thirty years, and have held many exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.

Ray has written numerous articles on various aspects of Asian Antiques and is a long standing member of the AAADA and a valuer of Asian Art under the Cultural Gifts Scheme for the Commonwealth Government. He has also valued the Asian Collection at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Korean Collection at Auckland Museum, The Chinese Collection at the University of Queensland and the Asian Collection at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Bill has specialised in tribal art, antique rugs and Asian textiles in Sydney for over thirty-five years. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in History from the University of Minnesota and formerly ran the Caspian Gallery in Paddington. Bill has been a frequent speaker to museum and textile groups and has written articles on Oceanic and Aboriginal collections in Australian Museums for the magazine Tribal Art, the international bible of for tribal art enthusiasts. He has also written the chapter on the Solomon Islands in the book “Shields of Melanesia” which is generally considered the definitive work on the subject.

Richard has over 35 years’ experience in the arts and antiques industry and has worked in Australia, London, New York and Asia. He was a director of Christie’s Australia for 17 years, and led their dynamic Decorative Arts Department. During that time, Richard also arranged and auctioned some of the most successful single-owner collections in Australia including the John Schaeffer Collection, Alan Bond’s Dallhold Investments, The Bronte House Collection for Leo Schofield and the National Bank Jewellery Collection.

Since then, Richard has worked with private clients, foundations and organisations, curating and advising on the expansion or sale of existing collections and the formation of new collections.

Richard is also a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Australia.

William’s extensive experience in the Antiques trade started at an early age, and has spanned over thirty years. After restoring and conserving antiques for many years, in 1987 he decided to open his own restoration workshop in Manly on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Conservation work was undertaken on many antiques, including Australian Colonial and European antique furniture.

William’s retail experience includes trading in both his own store in Sydney’s Seaforth and also trading in Antique centres, including Woollahra Antiques Centre and Mittagong Antiques Centre. His true passion is Australian Colonial Furniture, hence in 1999 he moved his workshop to Campbelltown to solely concentrate and specialise in this area. William’s conservation portfolio is substantial, having conserved many important and imminent items of Australian Colonial Furniture.

In addition, William has worked for both Antique Dealers and Private Clients, advising and aiding them to form significant Australian Antique collections. William is highly respected within the industry for his wealth of knowledge, love and passion for Australian Colonial Antiques continues.

Jan is a former member of the QUT Art Collection Committee, Steering Committee for the Harries Digital Art Award and Caboolture Shire Council Art Collection Committee and was Chair the fundraising campaign for the QUT Art Museum in 2004.

During a career that has spanned over 20 years, she has worked with several fine art and antique auction houses with both national and international profiles. She has been involved in the development and administration of a variety of specialist, general and charity auctions, also having conducted lectures at conventions, clubs and associations. Ian brings over 50 years’ experience to his role with Mossgreen, having started his career in 1963 as an apprenticeship watchmaker.

He later spent several years working for Prouds Jewellers in Sydney before returning to Adelaide in 1973 and commencing work at Ottaways Jewellers as a watchmaker. In 1975 he qualified as a gemmologist and later gained a Diploma in Diamond Technology and became a Lic.NCJV Appraiser. He purchased Ottaways in 1981 and spent time as the President of the S.A. Gemmology Association and the President of the SA NCJV.

Established in 1983, Martyn Cook Galleries specialises in colonial furniture and English and French Antiques from 18th and 19th centuries.

Mossgreen formed an alliance with Martyn Cook Galleries, Rushcutters Bay, Sydney in 2013 following the successful auction of The Thomas Hamel & Martyn Cook Collection, which sold for $2.03 million in 2012.

Deanna has a Bachelor of Business from the University of Adelaide, majoring in International Business and Marketing. She has extensive experience in the arts industry, at both Sotheby’s London

Deanna joined Mossgreen in 2007 as Finance Manager, before becoming the Business Manager post-merger in 2013. In 2015 she was appointed the Department Manager for Single Owner Collections.

Hamish brings many years’ experience with him in the Antiques and auction business. Having worked in in New Zealand auction house in the early 80s, he then moved to London where he worked in retail selling Jewels on Bond Street and in Harrods. Upon deciding to move back to Australia, Hamish worked in the Pearl industry before opening up his own Antiques Shop in Woollahra. Hamish joined Mossgreen in 2016 as Head of Single-Owner Collections in the Sydney office.

Iona graduated from Christie’s Education in London with a Master’s of Fine and Decorative Arts from the Renaissance to Modernism in September 2016. During her time overseas she travelled both independently and with her course, and gained a great insight into the history of European, fine art, objets d’art and furniture. While studying, she interned at Christie’s, and following the completion of her dissertation, worked at Skarstedt Gallery in London before returning to Australia.

Amanda Swanson has over twenty years’ experience working in fashion, marketing and the Arts industries and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Fashion Design) from RMIT. Co-founder of Mossgreen with Paul Sumner, and as the Director of Events and Sponsorships, Amanda’s extensive knowledge of the Company and experience is now focused on creating high-end corporate connections, bespoke events and key sponsorship partnerships for Mossgreen.

Amanda is also the Creative Director and Head of Department for the Interior Decorator Auction series – one of the Company’s most popular departments that is curated for sale twice a year in Melbourne and Sydney.

Following graduation she worked at Sotheby’s London for 3 years, co-ordinating the auction administration for the Photographs and Prints departments.

Kate commenced working for Mossgreen Sydney in June 2016 as Front of House Manager before relocating to the Melbourne office as Events Administrator.

Ben worked for Leski Auctions before joining Mossgreen in September 2013 as an administrator in the Collectibles Department. He works closely with the sporting memorabilia, stamps and collectibles specialists, cataloguing objects for online and print catalogues and assisting clients at auction viewings.

Sarah graduated from Monash University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Print Media and has since then worked in various roles for non-for-profit organisations and commercial art galleries. Sarah has been active in the auction industry since 2013 in which time she has assistance with cataloguing, research and installation for important multi-vendor art auctions and single owner collections including The Peter McMahon Collection,  The Jennifer Phipps Collection and Max Dupain Estate Photographs.  She brings to her role a wealth of practical experience in client relations and administration..

Charlotte comes to Mossgreen with a background in museum curating and art history, with a Masters degree from the University of Sussex and a Bachelor of Arts (History) from the University of Western Australia. While living in the UK Charlotte held roles at the University of Sussex and the Society of Antiquaries of London, working in collections management, development, and events. Since returning to Australia Charlotte has undertaken paid and voluntary roles for such organisations as Sculpture By The Sea, the Western Australian Museum, and Anna Pappas Gallery. She brings to Mossgreen experience in client relations, events, collections care, and administration, as well as a passion for history and the arts.

Kathryn graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in July 2015 with 18 months of experience from the UQ Art Museum working in registration. In her final semester at university, Kathryn was accepted into the curatorial studies pilot program ‘JumpStart’ from which she gained experience in a public museum environment and the opportunity to curate her own exhibition at The UQ Art Museum. Since living in Melbourne she has volunteered at the Brunswick Street Gallery and worked as a Personal Assistant for Delmore Gallery.

Andy has worked with Mossgreen since 2011 and has a Bachelor of Arts(Hons) majoring in Fine Art and Critical Theory from Dublin Institute of Technology. His most recent role prior to joining Mossgreen as a fine art technician working in conjunction with several companies to install large scale exhibitions in some of Melbourne’s best known galleries. Andy has an extensive background working with both art galleries and auction houses in his native Ireland as well as the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia with broad ranging experience in both technical and administrative roles.

Luke has ten years’ experience working in the printing industry as a Production Manager where he gained extensive experience in management, operations, logistics, staff training and development. Mark graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Network Computing. He joined Leski Auctions in 2004 and co-developed the web-based real-time bidding application called ‘Live Bid Online’, a first for interactive auction bidding in Australia. He is also the primary systems administrator, web developer and network solutions provider. Most recently he launched the new Mossgreen website which integrates closely with state-of-the-art auction management software.
